Re: were to fish in portmouth

Hello Mr Bulldog.
The fishing is at it's slowest in our area from now untill late Feb.
You might get the odd shoal Bass at night with the odd late Whiting and Pout but apart from that it's slow.
Daytime off any of the beaches may throw up a Dab or Flounder but don't hold your breath.
Best bet would be a decent high tide late in the evening off Eastney or Hayling, fish small hooks with tipped worm baits, good luck.

The harbours used to be full of Flounders but not anymore.

As Danny has said Eastoke is the deeper end of ayling and usually fishing best.
Inn on the Beach is worth a go after a SW blow with slippers on the bach.

Re: were to fish in portmouth

Hayling is a good fishing venue m8 but there's no difference in water depth starting at the fair and finishing at the harbour entrance to chichester. I have been along the sea front in a boat many time with a fishfinder. Also the depth going out does not change for about 1 mile.

Eastoke mate between the groynes , there all numbered but pick the higher 20"s mate , id fish one rod whole squid on a 6/0 4/0 pennel pulley the other probally scratch about with size 1 hooks ragworm or lugworm baits on a 2 hook clip down rig

Yes mate , use a whole one and tie it on with bait elastic , its going to be very quiet where ever you go karl , not an ideal time of the year to start your fishing career mate , just dont get to disheartened it will get better as the temperature rises
