Closest mackerel fishing from Gloucestershire

Hi,

New to the forum. Have recently got back into fishing having float fished for many years in West Cornwall as a lad with my old man.

Myself and a mate have had a couple of trips to Chesil Beach this summer which has been great fun. The first being and the 2nd (this weekend gone) 70+.

Only downside is that it's a 230 mile round trip from Stroud, Glos.

Can anyone recommend any other spots either along the north or south coasts that are a bit less of a treck that Chesil?

You'll have to forgive my ignorance of the geography and it's suitability but I was thinking somwhere like Watchett or Brean Sands ??

Thanks in advance.

Re: Closest mackerel fishing from Gloucestershire

You would have to go along way dow the Somerset/N.Devon coast past Minehead to find them (clear deep water) and roads are terrible. - easiest & best bet is probably chesil. You could try Budleigh Salterton - but I think they are very hit & miss, though you could may a long day of it & meet Baggie/Pingu & take in some proper fishing (watching motionless tips).
