Where to fish in Gosport, Hampshire????

hey all,

im new and kinda new to fishing, well over here in the UK anyway.
i live in Fareham and am told down Lee on Solent and pier next to Gosport ferry are good places to fish.

i went down a few weeks ago to Lee on Solent and just stood there on the beach casting out and out and out again, but im just not sure im casting out far enough we didnt get a bite let alone catch anything....though saying that, because it was a last minute thing i did use bacon from the shop lol had to improvise.

but then that was the first time iv been fishing over here.
i dont no what bait to use IF i need to use any bait at all.
iv found going in to tackle shop fruitless as they just look at me and think i cant bait my own hook coz im a woman and wont give me any info or help.

soooooooooooo, essay over lol

who knows where is best and can give me advice on what bait to use if anybait.

thanks

chloe

Re: Where to fish in Gosport, Hampshire????

I see from your other post that you are using 8ft rods? if this is true then they are at least 4ft too short for beach casting.

bacon is not going to catch you much at all, you want to be providing things that the fish are eating at the moment, or things that look like food. stick with fresh worms, peeler crabs (when they are in season) and in squid. you can use things you find locally like limpets and muscles but these are best used for tipping off your worms.

I dont know your area so i cant help with where to fish, sorry.

your local tackle should be more helpful than you seem to think they are as novice anglers usually need to spend quite a lot of money to get the gear they need to fish properly. just walk in, tell the guy you are a newbie and that you need help and advice as well as equipment. if he isn't helpful, try to find another shop to spend your money in.

Re: Where to fish in Gosport, Hampshire????

hi ellie. i fish gosport alot. along the browdown bay and gilkicker way you need at least a 12 ft rod and a big fixed spool loaded with braid ( 15lb) and 50 lb shockleader. peeler crab and ragworm have been catching bass and nice smoothhound. meleniem pier has just started to show mackerel and loads of bass 2lb + are bieng caught 2. it may be worth coming over to portsmouth fishing the hard, south parade pier and clarence pier. been getting loads of bass, bream ( black and gilthead), mackerel, mullet ect. good luck

regards

ollie
