| Re: Back fishing in Thailand in a weeks time Hi there,i went guided with siamfishing tours there are many plus points which i will try to explain one- although they do do day trips say you are in Bangkok its such a large congested city that they often turn people down because to collect them and get them to your fishing location could take hours and i mean hours so by letting them sort all my accomodation and transportation out not only am i in the centre of things to do but they have me within no more than 30 min from where i am fishing two- also they have very good tackle and the tackle that some of the parks supply is not always that great and the cost of shipping your own tackle half way around the world is not cheap and to be honest not suitable either three-if you are after a certain species just tell them they know where the fish are and where the best place is to target them four-trying to find some of these fishing parks is near on impossible i know it took Jules 5 days 6 years ago to find palmtree lagoon and they had driven past it about 50 times you don't even know they are there and i know guys who have hired a taxi only to be driven halfway around Thailand and back without finding them five-even if you are lucky enough to find them without there knowledge you will more than likely have a wasted trip six- for me using a guide is a no brain-er they take away all the hassle and come up trumps time after time i hope this answers some of your questions but if you have more pleas feel free to ask on here or pm me and i will try to do my best to help tight lines John __________________ Common sense is not that common |

My wife is Thai and I fish there every 6 to 12 months unguided, with my own tackle. I was thinking about trying IT monsters as i've caught the species in it in other fishing parks. Its just nice to try a new venue. Just wondered if it has the unguided option. It is a bit pricey though considering I usually pay £3 a day to fish shadow lake. Those red tails and arapaima are good fun though. I may just spoil myself.cheers |

| Re: Back fishing in Thailand in a weeks time Hi jf If you follow my reports you will see my next venue day 9 is IT MONSTER LAKE and to be honest as i was there last year i wouldnt have bothered going if it wasnt for my son,as you know there are two types of ticket here the first is lure fishing until 2.oo and then they supply you with live bait i think you can only use one rod and to be honest the lure fishing is not great and hard work ,when i was there ten days ago the team shimano boys were there testing all there new kit andfilming and out of ten guys i only saw two fish caught i am sorry but i dont know what the price is for this option but in my view a waste of money If you want the other option which is two rods from the off live baiting i beleive the cost is 7500 baht about £150 a day but you will catch a lot more fish but in my opinion mr it doesnt have anything bigger than 120lb in the lake and if you look on google for half the money and less than a hour down the road in Ratchaburi you can fish palmtree lagoon which has some real monsters in it and also if the redtails are on the feed you will do well to catch anything else at it,but if you have never been its worth a go and also its one of the few lakes in Thailand were i would say you dont need a guide ps how do you find shadow lake i am thinking of giving it a go next time for the mekongs,i understand they are hard but in 10 times better condition than those at bsr tight lines John __________________ Common sense is not that common |

| Re: Back fishing in Thailand in a weeks time Hi, I used to catch arapaima, red tails, aligator gar, pacu and the usual carp and catfish in Phuket. When I lived there for a while it was 1000 baht a month. The park has now changed hands and it's something like 1500 to 2000 baht a day now. The red tails are great. The hardest fighting fish I've ever caught on a pound for pound basis. As you know if you know the fish will win or lose in the first few minutes as they give 100% from the start. It would be nice to try that again. I've been happy with the mekong cats until now because the red tails don't tend to go to the 100kg mark. Gnao nam is difficult but worth the effort if you catch. I like it because it's quiet. I will re-create a post I did on another forum in case I'm not allowed to link to the original. I was last in Bangkok in April. Hoping to go back end of March if work allows. Will have GPS to the site so you can check on google maps. Shadow lake is known as Gnao nam in Thai. Only the tours call it shadow lake. It can be difficult for tourists there because not many of the staff have much English at all. It's a Thai park at Thai prices. best regards -Jack |
