60KG Arapaima Landed By China Angler (Dream Fish)- BKKGUY

Hi Guys,


Just 2 days ago, I received an overseas call from a China angler.
He was here in Thailand for business trip and thus decided to bring along his rods and tackles to checkout the fishing scene in Thailand. Back in China, the fishes there are those small carp fishes using long pole to fish.

According to him, there are more & more young anglers taking up luring as fishing sport. Due to the limited lurig scenes back in mainland China, most of them are looking to fish overseas.

With a big catch of his dream fish (60KG arapaima) yesterday, he will be posting his CR in chinese fishing forum and hopefully this will get more China lurers & anglers coming to Thailand to fish. ;)

According to him (Wong ), it all started with this HK fishing mag that was been published some months back. The fishing mag which featured my face & the 60KG arapaima in the front cover HK fishing mag.I was then helping a senior Macau moderator of a popular Macau fishing forum to land his dream fish arapaima on thai giron lure. :)

That chinese CR thread contributed by him hitted the top chart in China fishing forum for months. Wah say !!! ;)




Yesterday was his big day. We fish IT Monsters from 6.00am to 3.30pm then he called it a day. This China angler objective is very simple. Get him the arapaima (which he said will give him good luck for his business) and he will just go back early.

In the wee morning, we managed to land 4-5 fishes on lure.

A nice size toman was hooked by me using my Daiwa Zillion 7.3

While Wong's Daiwa Steez 103 helped him to land a very fat aligator gar and redtail catfish on lure.

Forget to bring my Yamoto lure to IT Monsters yesterday, have to settle with my giron instead.

dude just a quick question, what strenth braid would you recomend?
i guess last time i was using about 50lb but was all lost in translation!
cant wait for my visit later this year (just arfter monsoon) going to bring
a nice selection of shads, rubber worms and plugs to the thrash the water with,
i know thers an arapaima with my name on it in ther!
want a crack at the giant gourami in ther as well, had a big shoal taking fish pellets
off the surface last time just didnt have the gear to get to them!
but what the hell im happy catching 30lb+ redtail cats all day! im not greedy ;-]
love thos redtails!!

Hi geffski,

I would recommend load in your mian line with PE 2-4 will be good enough.
The rod I use to land the 60KG arapaima is on 10-20 Ibs rod.

Do give me advance notice of your bkk trip so I can make reservation of your fishing date.

Redtails catfishes plentiful over here at IT Monsters lake.
