Guinea Bissau (part four)

Well here goes,i am afraid i have to start on a sad note and name and shame the camp bully,(he promised me he would read these posts)

Yes he might look like an innocent 70+ ex engineer whose name is John and he comes from Derby and he was the lucky guy who had to share a hut with me but his integrity must really be questioned, not only did he accuse me several times of snoring extremely loudly but at breakfast this morning and i didn't leave the bar until 04.30 he reckoned that i stripped of and sat on my bed and promptly fell asleep still sitting upright snoring my head of and looking like buddha and he said i was snoring so loud that he got up and punched me 4 times but to no avail so he threw a glass of water over me and i still didn't stir so he went for a walk and when he returned he said i was lying down and my alarm clock went off and he couldn't turn it off so he held it to my ear and after a minute or so i woke with such jump i knocked my alarm clock straight across the room with John just standing there grinning as always,i ask you some people eh have no consideration
Anyway enough of that lets get on to the fishing, today Phil has swapped boats with Dave so with Ricky and me today we are going out with maio,we head east for about 45min or so until we first stop at a sand bank and maio barks pop pop pop so out come the poppers and we fire them out as far as we can and then retrieve like mad and after drifting twice along with no takes we are of to try our luck along some rocky outcrops beside a island which must of stretched 12-1500 yrds and after 5 minutes or so i hook my first jack of the day about 23-24lb

And not long after Ricky gets a hit and 15min or so later he has his prize by the boat and although i am sure its just a optical illusion his one comes in bigger than mine, these things really do fight like something at least twice there size even with 50lb braid and a sturdy rod you very seldom get one in under the 15 min mark, after another hour or so although we had had a couple of hits they either came of or missed the lure so we headed back to a sand bank anchored up and had a spot of lunch, after lunch we were waiting for maio to move but he kept on shaking his head and pointing towards the sand bank just telling us to wait and a further 15min past all of a sudden the gulls appeared from no where and splash the jacks were chasing the bait fish towards the sand bank pop pop pop shouted maio and all of a sudden the sea was alive and we just launched our lures as quick as we could towards any sign of mayhem Ricky was first into a fish and crack the line had gone now Dave was in but i think after last night he was feeling the after affects and along with the heat and shear power of these fish after he had caught a couple he had to have a rest in the shade, here's the two of them in action and just look at Dave who is no wimp but the fish are so powerful the deckie is there just in case

and after two hours and ten in the boat Ricky being snapped up 3 times and me twice they are still coming in fact it got so bloody manic that we just had to stop and have a pop and a fag these things were pulling our arms off and just carried on and on and after we had our ten we just released the rest for another day, about 16.00 i hooked this cracker which was to be my biggest of the day at about 35-36lb and taking me a good 20min and about 5 laps around the boat before it was landed

And by the end of the day we had caught 21 and i guess lost another 10 and my arms and shoulders were just numb,
On the way back to the island we ran into some local fisherman and swapped 3 jacks for some crabs and when we get back to the island Clive had caught a cracking barra around the 40-45lb mark and although everyone had caught fish we were top boat that day by a long way and as we got to the bar and i explained that i was totally exhausted and would need a good beer to help me relax John just sat there shaking his head but smiling as always,Oh and before i go although i didnt catch this on this trip as you can see Mike and Chris as the pompano get bigger they do change there shape a bit, tight lines guys and part 5 to follow on Sunday
