Guinea Bissau (part three)

Well before we get on to the fishing i thought i would give you guys a idea of the islands accommodation views and bar

That small wall that you see in the sand is where the sea comes to when the tide is in not 10ft from your humble little dwelling, and here is a view from the hut when the tide is almost in plus a piccie of one of the boats
its also very noticeable if you look at the colour of the sea the picture from my hut was taken on the first day we arrived and is quite murky after the storm as the picture of Matta servicing his boat was taken the day we left after everything was back to normal
And last but not least the eating and DRINKING area with of course Phil turning up between my legs for some reason or other, this guy is like Frank Carson on steroids its just joke after joke after joke and he really is a funny man and had us all in fits of laughter from beginning to end

So as you can see this place really is paradise(and a bar to),Anyway lets get back to the fishing and today its Dave,Clive and Johns turn on the beach so the three lads from Birmingham on one boat and the three p*** heads on the other,Matta is our skipper for the day and he is new to me and in my opinion still has a lot to learn whilst on the brummies boat they have Maoi a skipper with plenty of experience and who i had the pleasure of fishing with last time i was here, anyway after brekkie we are heading of to the westpoint and if we are lucky we might bag a big cobia or two,its about 45km from Acunda which is about a hour on the boat but its a bit rough today and we all get a early morning massage as we bounce through the waves which soon helps you forget the hangovers from the night before.About 3-4 miles before we get there the skipper slows down and we are all scanning the sea for the schools of live bait and armed with our hock-eyes (not sure if this is the correct spelling)in the next hour we bag 60 or so fish so now throttle on and we head straight to the reef and start our first drift of the day,the fish finder is on and it shows fish every where but no takes and on our 2nd drift a massive cobia shows itself but we cant entice it to take any of the baits and as we head back up for our third drift and decide to put fresh bait on we lift the lid on the bait well and wtf they are all dead the guys had forgot to turn on the air pump so we drift a couple more times but with no takes so we head of again looking for more live bait so another hour wasted lol,on our return and 2nd or 3rd drift i manage to hook and land a jack of around 20lb

and a bit later Ricky had one of around 25lb and then another of about the same size and Phil still cracking joke after joke and reminding me of his guitar fish had a small barra of about 7lb but although we knew the fish were there the murky waters seemed to have put them of there food and they just wouldn't take the bait, the Brummies had also had a couple or three jacks and i felt sorry for Andy who had hooked into a massive snapper guesstimate 60-65lb but he had got his lines crossed with the other 2 guys and after a bit of untangling and getting this thing right to the boat the deckie for some reason tightened his clutch and in a flash it turned and was gone and that left Andy a bit gutted to put it mildly and me to as i still have not seen a snapper over 20lb ever landed as these things are devious little blighters and as soon as you set the hook they dive straight down into the nearest snag so you really have to give them some stick or they are gone in a flash, about a hour later and no more fish we started trolling and bagged a couple of small barras so for the last 2 hours we headed back to fish what is known as the washing machine a circular crop of rocks where as the tide comes in and out gives the affect with all the water churning one way and then another and to be honest it was a hectic couple of hours with the Brummies hooking 3 and landing 1 manta ray of about 70lb sorry guys no photo as on the other boat and although they said they would email me i still have not received anything yet and the rest of us having run after run and between us i think we had 7-8 nice little snappers around the 6-8lb mark

And before we knew it the sun was going down and it was time to head back to the bar for a beer or thirty and Marie telling us that tomorrow she had extra beer being brought to the camp as stocks were already getting alarmingly low and they couldn't believe how much amber nectar we were going through oh and before i forget we had decided at the start of the week to have a 10euro sweep on the biggest fish caught during the week and while the Brummies were now topping the table with the manta poor Dave who had been on the beach today told us the he had hooked what we assume was a ray which due to the length of the fight being 1hour 15min the beach guys had all taken turns in trying to get this thing in and as they got more and more tired and frustrated gave it one last heave and smashed the rod in half and losing the fish in the process, poor Dave he was gutted never mind mate there is always next time, and according to my notes we stayed at the bar until 04.30 so i think its fair to say we were all a bit on the wobbly side
Thats all for today guys i need a couple of hours r&r before going of to work part 4 to follow
