| A few days out of Watamu, Kenya Just to let y'all know we are still fishing - in Kenya this time. If you live in the South of England, there is a direct Monarch flight Gatwick-Mombasa, but it only flies on a Monday (overnight, and on a Tuesday coming back) We booked a package deal via Thomas Cook, including that flight and accomodation at Turtle Bay Beach Club. Saved a bit of cash, and a bit of hassle (like changing planes), that way. Turtle Bay is first class - clean rooms, good food, good service. Packed lunches for the boat a bit unimaginative, but hey, catch a dorado each day and have it cooked aboard. Delicious dorado, potato, onion and tomato spicy stew. We had good sport each day, although very few billfish strikes - stacks of wahoo, plenty of dorado, and some barracuda, king mackerel, and yellowfin tuna for variety. We got sailfish and striped marlin, but a little disappointed in not finding any of the Big Bs (Black, Blue and Broadbill) - but that's a good reason for going again! Here are a few pics Dorado ![]() Wahoo ![]() Sailfish ![]() Gt Barracuda ![]() Narrowbarred (King) Mackerel ![]() and here's a novelty - an African Jacana, normally seen trotting across lily beds. Came and hitched a ride, from 12 miles out, all the way back to the moorings. ![]() __________________ RNLI Governor __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: A few days out of Watamu, Kenya Say Jambo to the locals for me, went to Turtle Bay for my honeymoon with the second wife 16 years ago. I love the country there, shame I never got to fish it! __________________ Life is understood looking backwards, but it must be lived forwards. |

The Narrowbarred mackerel was new to me, although Certhia had already had one in Australia. Also new was a Red-axil Emperor, caught during an hour's bottom fishing. ![]() All the others we have had before. __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |
